In 2022-2023, many Russian companies are facing the need to migrate their IT infrastructure to domestic hardware and software. How to avoid mistakes, increase reliability and reduce costs were discussed at the TAdviser IT INFRASTRUCTURE DAY 2023 conference. In addition to representatives of client companies, the event brought together producers of domestic solutions. The speakers shared successful cases and told how much costs could be reduced due to import substitution.

The departure of major foreign manufacturers from Russia has led many companies to take a wait-and-see attitude. However, in 2023, the time for thinking about the situation ended and many began to move into action.

The TAdviser IT INFRASTRUCTURE DAY 2023 conference held for the third time united the companies that have already converted their IT infrastructure to Russian software solutions and those who are planning to do it. Russian solution manufacturers also took part and demonstrated their products to the participants of the event. The goal of the event was to identify trends on the market of IT infrastructure and discuss successful stories of its transfer to Russian products. The conference presented popular technologies and showed practical examples of their application.

Participants of IT INFRASTRUCTURE DAY 2023 said that migration to Russian solutions helped them to reduce IT costs, increase reliability and reduce infrastructure costs.

Infrastructure costs are down 23%
An important advantage of infrastructure migration is that it will save money. As the representatives of Rosselkhozbank who took part in the conference reported, they transferred several IT systems to Russian platforms during the year. The specialists have managed to maintain the functionality, availability and current SLA conditions. In addition, the transition to Russian solutions helped reduce infrastructure maintenance costs by 23%.

How to save up to 45 million rubles in 3 years

The company vStack, developing a software-defined platform for building enterprise-class virtual data centers, described the benefits of its approach, including automation of deployment and infrastructure management. The participants’ interest was aroused by the story about savings up to 45 million rubles over 3 years, as compared with the cost of using large foreign platforms. For example, the TCO analysis showed that for 17 servers vStack requires 25 million rubles for software licenses and support, 10 million rubles for administrative costs and 1 million rubles for installation, resulting in a total TCO of only 75 million rubles, as compared to 126 million rubles for OpenStack and 120 million rubles for VMWare.

For example, vStack experts calculated the cost of a 3-year TCO for 17 servers:

  • VMWare software licenses and 3u support will require an investment of 45 million rubles, and vStack – 25 million rubles.
  • administrative costs of OpenStack – 85 million rubles, VMWare – 35 million rubles, vStack – 10 million rubles.
  • The installation of OpenStack is 2 million rubles, and vStack is 1 million rubles.

“Many of those who approached our booth were already familiar with vStack. Some of the participants have already tested our solution and most of the feedback has been positive. The lull that we saw in 2022 is coming to an end. More and more businesses are now realizing that it’s time to act. Those who have not yet switched to software and hardware from domestic manufacturers are starting to do so now. And those who have already gained experience in this area understand that this is not only a forced measure, but also new opportunities for development and savings,” commented Stanislav Mril, CEO of vStack.

vStack is an enterprise-class virtualization platform designed for building virtual infrastructures that combines three traditionally disparate components into a single software-defined solution with low overhead and high cost-effectiveness due to the uniqueness of the technologies on which the solution is based. The vStack platform was founded by the ITGLOBAL group of companies.
