In 2022, many foreign software and equipment manufacturers left the Russian market, so the topic of import substitution and technological sovereignty became the main topic for discussion at the TAdviser SummIT 2022 conference, which took place on November 29 in Moscow. At the special session “Import substitution in IT” within the framework of the conference the first results of the new stage of import substitution, which the country entered at the beginning of this year, were summarized.

Maksut Shadaev, Minister of Digital Development of Russia, stated that the Ministry of Digital Development plans to support and stimulate the industry, and noted that “there are no more illusions about the return of foreign vendors. Maksut Shadaev also said that the market will regulate itself and that “the most viable companies” will remain in the market.

Representatives of the largest IT companies and government agencies shared their results and plans for the next year. Hyperconvergent platform vStack – a Russian-developed alternative to VMware, which is currently one of the best solutions in the industry and is included in the register of domestic software – also took part in the conference.

The company shared its plans and results for 2022 and said that this year was a time of opportunity for it. If in previous years business mostly used solutions of foreign manufacturers and was reluctant to look at domestic solutions, then in 2022 demand for Russian software increased many times over. The vStack project team started working on the platform back in 2018, but after VMware left, the market appreciated its advantages. It should be noted that vStack does not copy a foreign solution, but solves the same problems more efficiently.

“Russian products are becoming better known. Most of them have already begun to gain a foothold in the market and have at least been tested by customers. Next 2023 will be an important year in the transition to domestic products, because entire industries are planning to launch import substitution projects. It is worth noting that the ‘denial’ stage of the market has already passed, and many companies are in the ‘bargaining’ stage and are considering Russian solutions.”
Evgeny Gavrilov, development manager of the vStack hyperconverged platform.

At the TAdviser SummIT 2022 conference, vStack representatives demonstrated that the platform can replace products for building infrastructures, including virtual ones. With its help, it is possible to create an IT infrastructure with a managed virtual data center of enterprise level based on the standard server equipment. Evgeny Karpov, Development Manager of the vStack hyperconverged platform, noted the interest of the conference visitors in the vStack booth and the drawing, which attracted maximum attention from the summit participants.

At the conference, the vStack team shared their plans for the coming year. Among them, it is worth noting a significant expansion of the product and service portfolio. In the new year, the company will launch two panels for virtual infrastructure management, one of which is enterprise-level and is designed for insourcing service management. In addition, the company plans to launch a unique industry solution for telecom operators, which will significantly simplify their work.
